Apache Rattlesnake Festival

Yes, for my California readers, it is not a misprint. Here in Oklahoma, we have a rattlesnake festival every year! We LOVE it! Here is a synopsis of our day.........

All morning Nate kept asking "Is it time to go yet?" Once in the truck, Nate decided Sean was driving too slowly. Here was our conversation....

Nate: Can we ride in a bus to the festival?
Mom: Why do we need to ride in a bus?
Nate: Cause they go faster.
Mom: Do you want to ride in a bus because you like buses or because they go faster?
Nate: I want to ride in a bus because they go faster than daddy!
Apparently dad was not getting him to the festival fast enough.

I wasn't sure which line to stand in

Every time the snake moved forward, Sean moved backwards!

Nate touching a snake (no, for all of you gasping in horror, it was not a poisonous snake)

There must have been hundreds of snakes in the pit.

Nate and dad going d0wn the huge slide. This was by far Nate's favorite attraction! They rode the slide seven times.

Nate's first roller coaster ride. His expression is half terror and half exhilaration. I don't think he will be riding another one for awhile.

Nate has been begging to go fishing for quite some time now. We found this fishing game for him to play but he kept trying to cast his hook! Definitely not the way the game was intended. The poor man who was working the booth was getting a little irritated. Oh well, at least we were the only ones playing the game at the time.

Sean and Nate went into the fun house. Nate did not like this ride at all! They had a moving contraption at the end (like in the movie Grease) that you had to go through to get out. As you can see from the picture, Nate was extremely upset until his dad started messing around. After that, he at least loved the end of the fun house.

Nate had a blast riding in the firetruck and ambulance.

A grape snow cone rounded out our excursion.

  1. I grew up near Apache and have attended this festival many times! Just wanted to tell you this idea of a blog for your son in leu of a scrapbook/photo album is brilliant! Your son will be so happy to have this some day, and it cannot get bent or broken or lost. I have to disagree with your assessment of yourself as 'not creative'. This appears to be a very creative, fun blog. Good luck!
